Product Overview
Combined Class I+II AC surge protector with 12.5kA impulse discharge current (Iimp) covering 150V through 440V UC in six pole configurations. The 12.5kA Iimp satisfies Type 1 requirements for buildings with external lightning protection systems where partial lightning current enters via the incoming supply.
Six pole options (1P, 1P+NPE, 2P, 3P, 3P+NPE, 4P) cover all standard AC distribution configurations from single-phase to four-wire three-phase systems — one product family for a whole facility.
Combined AC Type 1+2 SPDs protect the inverter AC output and main distribution board from grid-side overvoltage surges in a single device. Connect with the shortest possible lead length to the busbar — inductive voltage drop in the SPD connection leads reduces protection effectiveness during fast-rise-time transients.
Applications
Inverter output protection
AC distribution boards
EV and PV support circuits

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Iimp and how is it different from Imax?
Iimp is the impulse current used to test Type 1 (Class I) SPDs — it simulates partial lightning strike current. Imax is the maximum surge current for Type 2 (Class II) devices. A combined device must meet both standards. EKU5-T1+T2-12 carries 12.5kA Iimp (Type 1) and Imax (Type 2) ratings.
Where is a combined Type 1+2 SPD installed?
Combined Type 1+2 SPDs are installed at the main service entry — immediately after the main incomer in the main distribution board. This protects downstream circuits from lightning current arriving via the utility supply.
