Solar Supply for Nigeria & West Africa
How OmniSol supplies solar BOS components, residential kits and energy storage to Nigerian importers, distributors and EPC contractors — with guidance on SONCAP compliance, Lagos port logistics and off-grid system configuration.
Nigeria Market at a Glance
Nigeria is sub-Saharan Africa's largest power market and the continent's biggest diesel-replacement opportunity. With an electrification rate below 60% and average grid uptime of 4–10 hours per day in most states, off-grid and hybrid solar systems address a structural energy deficit — not just a peak-shaving use case.
OmniSol supplies Nigerian distributors and EPC contractors with complete solar system kits and BOS components from China, with documentation structured for SONCAP compliance and Lagos port clearance.

1kVA to 10kVA hybrid inverters with solar MPPT, generator input and battery charging. IEC 62109 certified; SONCAP check available.
View productsLiFePO4 Battery Banks
48V 50Ah to 200Ah LiFePO4 batteries with BMS. UN38.3 certified for sea freight. 3,000+ cycle life — replaces lead-acid for distributor and EPC supply chains.
View productsSolar BOS Components
PV cable, MC4 connectors, DC circuit breakers, combiner boxes and AC protection boards — sold as individual SKUs or bundled with kit orders.
View productsSONCAP Compliance
SONCAP inspection is mandatory for regulated products entering Nigeria. Inspection is carried out at origin (China) by a designated Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) before shipment — not at Lagos port.
OmniSol confirms SONCAP-applicable SKUs at RFQ stage
Buyer engages a SONCAP-approved CAB (e.g. Bureau Veritas, Intertek, SGS Nigeria)
CAB arranges factory inspection at our Xiamen warehouse or supplier factory
Product Certificate of Conformity (CoC) issued — valid per shipment
CoC accompanies shipping documents; Nigeria Customs releases cargo at port
Not all solar BOS components are regulated under SONCAP. OmniSol will confirm which SKUs in your order require a Certificate of Conformity at the RFQ stage — before production begins.
Off-Grid Market Context
- Nigeria generates ~4,000MW against a demand of ~30,000MW — structural deficit drives off-grid adoption
- 70 million+ Nigerians lack access to reliable electricity, creating large addressable market for hybrid solar
- Diesel generators cost ₦1,200–₦1,800/litre to run — solar payback is typically 18–30 months for a 3.5–5kVA system
- Bank of Industry (BOI) and REA off-grid programmes are increasing access to financing for residential systems
- Northern states (Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto) have higher solar irradiance than Lagos — PSH 5.5–6.0
Logistics & Port Notes
- Primary port: Apapa (Lagos) — largest volume, most agents and freight forwarders
- Alternative: Tin Can Island Port — shorter queue times, less congestion
- Port Harcourt / Onne: preferred for southeastern Nigerian delivery
- LiFePO4 batteries: UN3480 DG declaration required — sea freight standard, no passenger air
- Transit time China → Lagos: 28–35 days (FCL) / 35–45 days (LCL)
- Recommended Incoterms for first order: FOB Xiamen or CIF Lagos
- Demurrage risk is high at Apapa — confirm with your forwarder before arrival
Nigeria Import — Common Questions
What is SONCAP and how does it apply to solar products imported into Nigeria?
SONCAP (Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme) is a mandatory pre-shipment inspection programme for regulated products entering Nigeria. Solar inverters, batteries and certain BOS components fall under the SONCAP product scope. Inspection and certification is carried out by designated conformity assessment bodies (CABs) at the origin country — in practice, this means inspection at the Chinese factory or freight forwarder before shipment. Products without a valid SONCAP certificate may be held at Lagos or Apapa port. OmniSol can check SONCAP certification status for each SKU at the RFQ stage.
Which port should solar shipments to Nigeria use?
Most solar BOS and kit shipments arrive at Apapa Port (Lagos) or Tin Can Island Port (Lagos). Inland delivery to Abuja, Port Harcourt or Kano is by road from Lagos. Some importers use Onne Port (Rivers State) for Port Harcourt–based distribution. Apapa remains the most common entry point but is subject to congestion and demurrage risk — experienced freight forwarders will advise on current waiting times and recommend Tin Can as an alternative.
What import duty applies to solar products in Nigeria?
Nigeria operates a differentiated tariff on energy products. Solar panels (HS 8541.40) attract 0% import duty under the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET) for renewable energy promotion. Batteries and inverters typically attract 5–10% CET depending on HS code classification. VAT (7.5%) applies to most imports. Duties are assessed on CIF value (cost + insurance + freight). OmniSol provides commercial invoices with HS code reference to support customs declarations, but importers are responsible for engaging a licensed customs agent (CAC).
Can OmniSol supply residential solar kits configured for Nigerian grid conditions?
Yes. Nigeria operates at 220V/240V 50Hz. Inverters are configured for this voltage as standard. Most Nigerian households run on unreliable single-phase supply, so hybrid inverters with generator input are preferred — these allow solar charging, battery backup and generator top-up in a single unit. For the northern grid (Abuja, Kano) and southern grid (Lagos, PH), inverter frequency tolerance is set to 45–55Hz to handle Nigerian grid fluctuation. OmniSol can configure and test inverters to this spec before shipment.
