Product Overview
Combined Type 1+2 DC surge protection in a single device with 40kA discharge current and IP20 built-in rating for flush installation inside switchboards or combiner enclosures. One device satisfies both lightning (Type 1) and switching surge (Type 2) coordination requirements at a single installation point.
Combined devices simplify the BOM for installations where both protection classes are required, and ensure factory-matched Type 1 and Type 2 coordination without separate device selection.
Combined Type 1+2 devices protect against both direct and nearby lightning strikes from a single device, eliminating the need for separate Type 1 and Type 2 SPDs at the same installation point. Required at the service entrance of structures with an external lightning protection system per IEC 62305-4 coordination requirements.
Applications
PV string and array protection
Combiner box internal protection
Inverter DC input circuits

Frequently Asked Questions
When is combined Type 1+2 preferred over separate devices?
A combined device is preferred when installation space is limited, when factory-matched coordination is required, or when the switchboard position must satisfy both Type 1 and Type 2 requirements simultaneously. Separate devices give more flexibility if the two protection classes need to be installed at different points.
Is Type 1+2 DC SPD required for all PV installations?
Type 1 is only required where the building or system has a direct lightning protection system (LPS), or where local code mandates it. For most PV systems without a direct LPS, Type 2 alone is sufficient. Confirm with the project electrical designer.
