Trapezoidal Mini-Rail System

Why Quality Matters?

Shipping 4-meter rails is expensive and difficult to handle. Mini-rails offer the same structural strength for metal sheets but fit into standard pallets, drastically reducing landed cost.

The ultimate cost-saver for trapezoidal metal roofs. By replacing long rails with 385mm short segments, we reduce shipping volume by 40%. Includes pre-attached EPDM pads for instant waterproofing.

How Trapezoidal Mini-Rail System is sourced

OmniSol sources Trapezoidal Mini-Rail System factory-direct as part of the Roof Mounting family, quoted against your project quantity, destination port and material (AL6005-T5 Aluminum). Pricing and lead time are confirmed by SKU and order size at the RFQ stage, and OmniSol can propose a current-equivalent option if the exact variant is unavailable, so the line stays on schedule.

BOM fit

Trapezoidal Mini-Rail System is part of the structural BOM and is sized from the roof or ground layout and the wind and snow load. It consolidates with rails, clamps, fasteners and the rest of the project BOS into one freight-optimised container.

Certification check

Confirm the Trapezoidal Mini-Rail System certificates — EN AW-6005A T5 aluminum extrusion (EN 755-2) — mill certificate on request, EPDM pad compound: ISO 37, UV-stabilized for 25-year outdoor service, Fixing screws: SUS410 stainless (AISI 410 equivalent), Structural calculation: AS/NZS 1170.2, JIS C8955 — project-specific report included — the material certificate and coating thickness for the destination before ordering. OmniSol supplies material and surface-treatment reports at RFQ.

Product Overview

The Mini-Rail system was designed to solve a specific logistics problem: full-length aluminum rails (typically 3.6–4.2m) increase container utilization costs and complicate on-site handling. By segmenting the rail function into 385mm mounting blocks, each fixed independently to the metal roof rib, the Mini-Rail delivers equivalent structural performance with dramatically reduced freight cost.

Each Mini-Rail block is extruded from EN AW-6005A T5 aluminum, the same alloy grade used in full-length rail systems. The 385mm segment length was selected to center the module midspan fixing point while maintaining the minimum 40mm bearing length on each side of the module frame. The T-slot profile accepts standard mid and end clamps without modification.

A factory-applied EPDM rubber pad on the underside of each Mini-Rail provides an immediate seal against the metal roof rib without additional sealant. The pad is bonded to the extrusion during fabrication and pre-compressed when the self-tapping fixing screws are torqued to the specified 6 N·m — no site-applied sealant is required.

The system is proven across C&I rooftop projects on steel warehouse and factory buildings, where the combination of lower freight cost and faster installation time reduces total installed cost significantly compared to long-rail alternatives.

Applications

C&I rooftop solar on steel warehouses and factories with trapezoidal metal sheet roofing

Export projects where container cubic volume is a dominant cost driver

Projects with non-uniform rafter spacing where standard rail positions would require field cutting

Small commercial rooftops where full-length rail handling is impractical

Retrofit additions to existing metal roof solar arrays

Installation Notes

1

Fix only to the raised rib of the trapezoidal profile — never fix into the valley between ribs, which will cause water ingress and long-term roof damage.

2

Check that the EPDM pad is centered on the rib surface before torquing the screws; a pad that overhangs the rib edge will not compress evenly and will allow water tracking.

3

Torque SUS410 self-tapping screws to 5–7 N·m — over-torquing causes the EPDM to split at the edges; a torque driver with a preset stop is recommended for consistent installation.

4

Maximum distance between adjacent Mini-Rail pairs is 1,350mm (landscape module orientation) — do not exceed this span without obtaining an updated wind load calculation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What trapezoidal roof profiles are compatible?

Ribs with a height of 25–65mm and a rib top width of 35–100mm are compatible with the standard Mini-Rail. For ribs outside this range, specify the profile dimensions at order for a custom extrusion check.

Can Mini-Rails be used on Klip-Lok or standing seam roofs?

No. Mini-Rails use self-tapping screws through the rib and are specifically for trapezoidal corrugated profiles. Klip-Lok and standing seam roofs require non-penetrating seam clamps.

Is additional sealant required at the rail base?

No — the pre-applied EPDM pad provides a watertight seal when correctly torqued. Adding silicone sealant on top of the EPDM can actually trap water under the pad by preventing drainage.

What is the maximum allowable span between Mini-Rail pairs?

1,350mm landscape and 900mm portrait for standard conditions. Reduced to 1,100mm landscape in high wind zones (≥50 m/s design speed) — OmniSol provides a project-specific span table.

Are custom Mini-Rail lengths available?

Standard lengths are 385mm and 250mm. Custom lengths are available for unusual module frame configurations with a minimum order quantity.
