Product Overview
Dedicated AFCI protection combiner box for PV systems requiring arc fault detection compliance. Arc fault protection is the code-driven upgrade from standard fused combiners for residential and commercial PV in NEC 2017 and later markets. This unit handles AFCI detection per input string alongside standard combiner functions.
Arc faults in PV wiring are a known fire risk — damaged MC4 connectors, pinched cables behind modules, and faulty junction boxes can sustain arcing that standard fusing does not interrupt. AFCI devices are designed specifically to detect and clear these arcs.
The EKPV-AFCI monitors PV string wiring for arc fault signatures using a dedicated AFCI module integrated into the combiner enclosure. Single-unit installation at the combiner satisfies NEC 2017+ arc fault protection requirements without per-string AFCI devices — confirm with the local authority whether combiner-level AFCI meets the applicable code version.
Applications
PV string combining
DC array protection
C&I rooftop solar
Utility-scale field combiner circuits
Frequently Asked Questions
Which markets require AFCI for PV systems?
The US NEC 2017 and later editions require AFCI protection for PV systems under Section 690.11 in many jurisdictions. Requirements are adopted state-by-state — confirm with the local authority having jurisdiction whether AFCI is required for your installation.
Can AFCI combiner be used with any string inverter?
AFCI combiners are compatible with standard string inverters — they protect the DC side wiring independently of the inverter brand. The AFCI trip signal may need to be connected to the inverter shutdown input for full NEC 690.12 compliance. Confirm inverter compatibility at RFQ.
