Product Overview
Single-string rapid shutdown device for PV systems where firefighter safety codes require de-energization of roof conductors within 30 seconds of shutdown initiation. IP65 outdoor enclosure mounts directly on the rooftop or array frame without an additional weatherproof box.
Rapid shutdown is mandated under NEC 2017 and later for rooftop PV in the United States and is referenced in codes in other markets. One unit per string provides the most granular shutdown control — combine with module-level devices if NEC 2020 module-level shutdown is required.
50A combiner fuse sets protect main DC bus or sub-array circuits where aggregated string currents exceed the range of individual gPV string fuses. Specify the gPV fuse class for solar string protection — gG fuses are not designed for the operating current profile of PV string circuits and may nuisance-trip or fail to clear correctly.
Applications
PV string and array protection
Combiner box internal protection
Inverter DC input circuits
Utility and C&I solar BOS
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is rapid shutdown required?
Rapid shutdown is mandated in the US under NEC 2017 (section 690.12) and later editions for rooftop PV. Requirements reduce roof conductor voltage to below 30V within 30 seconds of activation. Other markets increasingly adopt similar requirements — confirm the applicable code for your installation jurisdiction.
How does EKFS-50-1 connect to the shutdown initiation signal?
The device is triggered by a control signal from the inverter or a dedicated rapid shutdown switch. Compatible control signal specifications are confirmed at RFQ — share the inverter model and we verify signal compatibility.
