Sourcing Solar Mounting for the UAE Market
The UAE has positioned itself as one of the Middle East's leading solar markets. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (targeting 5 GW), Al Dhafra Solar PV (2.1 GW — the world's largest single-site solar project at commissioning), and Abu Dhabi's Noor projects have driven rapid growth in utility-scale procurement. At the C&I and rooftop level, DEWA's Virtual Net Metering programme and Abu Dhabi's Shams programme have opened a substantial distributed solar market.
The UAE's built environment is dominated by flat concrete roofs and metal-deck warehouses — very different from the tile and metal seam roofs of Australia or Germany. Solar carports are also unusually prominent: shading vehicles from 48°C summer heat is both a comfort and a commercial requirement at retail malls, hotels, government facilities, and logistics hubs.
Procurement teams in the UAE typically work through Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) or mainland Dubai and Abu Dhabi importing channels. With the UAE-China CEPA now in force, import duties on most solar mounting hardware from China are 0%, making Chinese manufacturing significantly more cost-competitive than European or American alternatives for projects in the region.
Mounting Types for UAE Projects
The UAE's roof landscape differs significantly from European or Australian markets. Flat concrete and industrial metal-deck roofs dominate; tile roofs are rare. Carports and ground-mount utility scale represent the fastest-growing segments.

Climate Considerations & Material Selection
UAE-specific risks and how OmniSol addresses them
Ambient temperature
Risk: Up to 48°C summer ambient; module surface to 75°C
Solution: H1Z2Z2-K PV cable (90°C rated); EPDM pads rated ≥ 90°C; 6005-T5/T6 aluminium alloy
Sand & dust storms (Shamal)
Risk: Abrasive wind-driven sand from NW; dust soiling reduces yield
Solution: Anodised aluminium surfaces; sealed cable entry points; tilt ≥ 10° for self-cleaning
Coastal salt spray
Risk: Dubai Marina, Abu Dhabi Corniche, Fujairah coast — accelerated corrosion
Solution: SUS316 fasteners within 5 km of coast; anodised Al ≥ 20 µm coating
UV radiation
Risk: High UV index year-round (GHI ~2,200 kWh/m²/year); polymer degradation
Solution: UV-stabilised plastic components; UV-rated EPDM and PP parts
Optimal tilt for UAE: 10–25° depending on application
Annual energy optimum is ~25° (latitude-matched). For dusty environments, ≥10° enables self-cleaning. Use our Solar BOS Calculator to model yield vs tilt trade-offs for your UAE site.

Wind Load Calculation
Structural wind load calculation per EN 1991-1-4 or ASCE 7-22. OmniSol identifies the governing design wind speed for your UAE location and provides a calculation report suitable for DEWA or local authority review.
Tilt Angle & Shadow Analysis
Recommended tilt angle for your site latitude and row spacing (GCR) to minimise inter-row shading. We account for the UAE's dust environment — minimum 10° recommended for self-cleaning in all regions.
CAD Layout & Full BOM
Custom roof or ground layout in DXF or PDF. Full bill of materials with SKU quantities, unit weights, and packaging data for UAE customs and on-site installation planning.
Carport Structures: Municipal Approval Note
Solar carport structures over public or shared-access areas in Dubai require Dubai Municipality (DM) or Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) structural approval. In Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADCM) approval applies. OmniSol provides structural calculations, shop drawings, and material certificates to support the approval package — but final submission and sign-off must be by a UAE-licensed structural engineering consultancy. Contact us early in the project to ensure documentation is ready for the approval timeline.
Frequently Asked Questions
What solar mounting standards apply in the UAE?
The UAE does not have a single national solar mounting standard. Grid-connected systems in Dubai must comply with DEWA's technical connection requirements (DEWA Solar Connection Guidelines). Abu Dhabi projects under ADDC/ADWEA follow similar IEC-based documentation requirements. Structurally, mounting systems must be designed to EN 1991-1-4 (Eurocode wind load) or ASCE 7-22, with UAE local authority acceptance depending on the emirate and project type. OmniSol provides wind load calculations per EN 1991-1-4 and can support DEWA submission packages.
How does UAE's extreme heat affect solar mounting material selection?
Ambient temperatures in UAE can reach 48–50°C in summer, with module surface temperatures exceeding 75°C. For mounting hardware, anodised aluminium alloy 6005-T5 or T6 performs well — it does not corrode in the dry desert environment and has low thermal expansion relative to steel. Stainless steel fasteners (SUS304 for inland, SUS316 for coastal within 5 km of the sea) are required. EPDM sealing pads and UV-stable plastic components must be rated to at least 90°C continuous. PV cable insulation should be rated to H1Z2Z2-K (90°C conductor, -40°C to +90°C operating range) to avoid derating in the UAE climate.
What import duty applies to solar mounting hardware imported to the UAE from China?
The UAE standard customs duty on aluminium structures (HS 7610.90) is 5%. Under the UAE-China Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which entered into force in January 2023, most solar mounting hardware from China qualifies for 0% preferential duty. OmniSol provides the required Certificate of Origin (CEPA Form) with every shipment to support the preferential rate claim at UAE customs.
How long does shipping from China to UAE take?
Ocean freight from Xiamen to Jebel Ali (Dubai) is typically 18–22 days transit. Port clearance at Jebel Ali (JAFZA) is usually 3–7 days depending on document completeness. Total door-to-port time from order confirmation, including production (15–25 days) and shipping, is typically 6–8 weeks for standard products. Express LCL consolidation via weekly services from Qingdao or Shanghai can reduce overall transit by 3–5 days for smaller orders.
What tilt angle should I use for solar panels in the UAE?
For annual energy optimisation, the ideal fixed tilt in the UAE is approximately 25° (latitude-matched for Dubai at 25.2°N and Abu Dhabi at 24.5°N). However, in the UAE's dusty environment, a tilt of at least 10° is recommended to enable rain and condensation to wash dust from panel surfaces. Many C&I flat-roof installations use 10–15° for a balance between yield, wind load, and self-cleaning. Single-axis trackers are increasingly used at utility scale to maximise yield in the UAE's consistently high-irradiance environment.
Does OmniSol supply solar carport structures for the UAE market?
Yes. Solar carports are one of the fastest-growing mounting categories in the UAE, driven by the need for vehicle shading in extreme summer heat. OmniSol's aluminium waterproof carport system integrates a built-in gutter channel, uses T-slot module mounting, and is available in single-row (5–6 m span) and double-row (9–12 m span) configurations. Powder-coat colour options in RAL colours are available. Structural design is provided per EN 1990 / EN 1991-1-4 for UAE municipal submissions.
