Product Overview

Aluminum alloy conductor reduces weight and material cost relative to copper in the same cross-section, relevant for utility-scale ground-mount projects where long DC home runs use large conductor sizes. Three sizes (4, 6, and 10mm²) cover the most common aluminum DC wiring applications.

Aluminum conductors become cost-effective typically from 10mm² and above where the weight saving and price difference outweigh the need for a larger cross-section to match copper current capacity. Cable termination requires aluminum-compatible lugs or terminal blocks — confirm terminal compatibility before ordering.

Aluminium conductors carry approximately 61% of the current of an equivalent copper cross-section, so aluminium cable is specified one or two size grades larger than the copper equivalent. Confirm connector and terminal crimping compatibility with aluminium conductor before ordering — not all MC4 crimp contacts are rated for aluminium.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does aluminum PV cable make economic sense over copper?

Aluminum is cost-effective for large conductor sizes (10mm² and above) in long home runs where the weight saving and material cost difference outweigh the need for a larger aluminum cross-section to match copper current capacity. For short string wiring, copper is usually the practical choice.

Are aluminum PV cables compatible with standard MC4 connectors?

Standard MC4 connectors are designed for copper conductors. Aluminum cable ends require compatible lugs or MC4 pin sleeves rated for aluminum. We flag termination compatibility at RFQ and confirm the correct lug type before shipping.
