Product Overview

UL 4703 listed PV Wire for North American installations regulated by NEC. Eight AWG sizes from 16 to 2 AWG cover module-to-junction wiring through large home run conductors. The 2000V AC voltage rating (equivalent to 2000V DC for UL PV Wire) covers both 1000V and 1500V DC string architectures.

For NEC-regulated installations, PV Wire is required for exposed wiring outside conduit on rooftops and arrays. Confirm the AWG, color, and reel footage requirements at RFQ — stock availability is confirmed per size.

PV Wire is the US and Canada specification for solar field wiring, listed to UL 4703 and acceptable as USE-2 per NEC Article 690. Buyers targeting Australian or European projects should confirm whether H1Z2Z2-K cable is acceptable as an equivalent — substituting specifications mid-project can require retesting and delay commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is UL PV Wire required for all US solar installations?

UL 4703 PV Wire is required for exposed wiring in rooftop and ground-mount PV systems under NEC Article 690. THWN-2 conductors in conduit are sometimes used as an alternative for wiring inside enclosed raceways. The authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) makes the final determination.

What colors are available and what do they indicate?

PV Wire is available in black (negative) and red (positive) for standard DC wiring, and in white or gray for grounded conductors where applicable. Confirm color and AWG requirements for the full string BOM and we quote the complete cable package.
